So I was messing around with style, trying to work out how to capture someone's likeness in some kind of cartoony and simplistic way... Working towards and 's awesome cartoony/stylistic skills. I used a photo of Bradley Cooper as a reference and compared it to similar photos of several other celebrities.
That, plus wanting to learn how to color things both realistically and simply, for an effect partway between plain ol' cell shading and full-blown portraiture... To that end, stared at a lot of 's stuff. Also used the "butterfly lighting" in [link] as a reference for lighting, because that's the main problem I have with attempting to paint things from imagination. (Nevermind that this was drawn using a reference, haha.)
Also, the color picking tips in this tutorial are uber-useful. [link]
AT ANY RATE. I'm improving slightly, but I still too anal-retentive to achieve any really cartoony & expressive style. Any tips or tutorials you can send my way would be greatly appreciated.
I really like your style the way it is now, I think it's really nice to have it more on the realistic side. Whatever you come up with in the future, I'm sure it won't disappoint.
